Small comforts and uncertain times.

Our house is looking a bit sad at the moment. You see, we haven't put up any Christmas decorations. We are the only house on our street that doesn't have any lights sparkling outside. In fact, this:
[sorry for the bad pic]

is the only thing we have in our house that is at all festive. This is because we could be moving house at any point, and don't want to put all the decorations up to them have to take them all down again. But, our house looks sad.

As always, small comforts make life better. I did stray from my usual porridge and had this:

This is banana cinnamon porridge topped with chopped berries and peanut butter. It was nice, but not as nice as this:

Cinnamon porridge topped with warmed berries and peanut butter. Can anyone else see a smiley face in the peanut butter, or is it just me? The warmed berries and the syrup they produce is just heavenly. I will not stray again any time soon.

And, a picture in a magazine made me smile, so I took a [poor] picture of it:

Aww!

Oh, and happy 12/12/12.

Leftovers and comfort food.

I'm a big fan of using left over, using up what we have and making the best out of ingredients that we already have in, before buying any more.

This lunch is an example of me using up leftovers:

This is roast chicken, with roast veg, both of which were left over from a meal, plus a pear from the cupboard. A very delicious, low cost lunch, made from left overs.

I'm also a bit in love with my new lunch box:

I love the divided sections of this box, which means I can do all sorts of combinations of foods, and don't have to worry about them touching! Watch this space about more ideas with the lunch box....

I was also treated to a hot chocolate from a chain this week - I went with one of their christmas editions - honeycomb hot chocolate:

Tasted a bit like the well known chocolate honeycomb bar with the golden wrapping - very nice!

I've also had porridge:

Cinnamon porridge with warmed blueberries and peanut butter

Banana porridge with warmed berries and peanut butter

It's been a good week.

Lazy weeks and dark nights.

Well, the weather this half term hasn't been that great, but wouldn't expect anything less to be honest!

I still have indulged in various things, such as:

Peanut butter and blueberry jam on toast

More peanut butter - YUM!

Healthy lunches that can be savored rather than eaten in a rush whilst trying to do something else at the same time!

Decadent breakfast that can be eaten as slowly as you like - cinnamon porridge with warmed berries and - you guessed it! - peanut butter

I make this using value oats and these berries:

which are about £1.29 I think? So it's a very frugal breakfast, but tastes amazing. Try it!

I also popped to our local farm shop and got some tasty wholemeal bread:

which was very nice dunked into some soup. I also got:

a massive jar of peanut butter with no added sugar - trying to watch our processed food intake at the moment and within that added sugar, so this was a good find!

And finally, I have nearly finished this book:

which has been an enjoyable read - it's light hearted and funny and just what you want as a holiday read.

Phew! It's been a good week.

A new month...

Again, I have been lacking in the blogging department. I just feel like I never have anything to say! Plus I seem to always be busy doing wedding things, or packing seen as we're now moving house! In less than 2 weeks! Mad.

However, my current obsession is this:

This is half a portion of porridge, made with half skimmed milk half water, with half a banana and 1 tablespoon peanut butter! It is so so so amazing, and very filling. The peanut butter/banana combination is divine, especially as the peanut butter melts slightly in the hot porridge. Served with green tea, of course ;)

I have had this for tea:

A sweet chili stir fry with noodles. Delish!

Now then, where's that cardboard box gone.....
