an eighteen birthday party.

I went to a garden party yesterday for a friend's daughter's 18th birthday party :) there was lots of lovely food!

There were 5 quiches, pictured are two pea and feta quiches, and an asparagus quiche.

The pea and feta one was SO nice!

A whole poached salmon, which was lovely too :)

The best potato salad in the world!

Bulgar wheat with mango, radish, cucumber and herbs.

Almond macaroons with chocolate mouse filling and cupcakes :)

Ginger cake filled with cream and some berries.

A pink cupcake!

which was also pink inside :)

I ate quite a lot yesterday, but it was really worth it - plus I was there for lunch and tea!

The detox starts tomorrow ;)

Indulgence.

Sometimes, just sometimes, you have to indulge in something shop bought. This is a shop bought pizza, bought at half price ( I think) that has been in our freezer for ages. After the day I've had, I could not think of anything better to have for tea than a whole (yes, a whole) pizza.

A totally unhealthy tea - not doing anything for my wedding diet - but actually very yummy. The last time I had pizza was when I made HM ones for the first time - so it's definitely something I don't have very often.

I'm going to do a food inventory tonight to see what meals I can make next week out of stuff we already have in the house - my life is so exciting!

A ramble.

One of the main reasons why I started this blog was so that I could document how I was trying to make a better life for me and my OH, as well as keep track of finances and general everyday life.

A challenge in our household at the moment is trying to keep cost of food down, as it is for a lot of people. We both enjoy food and love trying new things, which can sometimes be an expensive habit. There are only two of us, so we should be able to keep costs fairly low, right?

Not at the moment, it seems. We spend, on average, around £40 a week on food shopping. This includes all meals, for both me and my OH, but even so, this is silly! It's not as if we buy lots, it's just because we include meat in most meals, as OH particularly likes his meat. Another problem, though I guess it shouldn't be a problem, is that I like fresh fruit, especially strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. OH also takes a banana with him to work everyday. These are expensive!  I'm going to aim to get this down to £30 a week, if not £25.

Home baking.

So, as I was sat in the house by myself tonight, I decided to do a bit of baking to pass the time :)

Cue blueberry muffins!

First, the cake mixture:

Add the blueberries:

Nom nom nom

Mix so it looks like:

Plonk the batter into muffin cases:

Bake for around 30 minutes, until they look like this:

Yum!

Hot drink, anyone?

So, whilst boiling the kettle this evening for a cuppa, I realised just how many hot drinks we have in our house:

We must like hot drinks a lot, right? Wrong! My h2b doesn't even drink hot drinks. He'll occasionally have a hot chocolate, but thats it.

The even worse thing, this picture doesn't include my massive box of normal tea bags!

My mini challenge for the next month is to:
a) not buy any more hot drinks, of any kind!
b) work my way through these.

So, drink anyone?
